What Peggy Sue Sees in the Garden

We walk the gardens side by side

For a time… and then,

It’s seek and hide

DSC02693

Such fascinating things appear

That I can’t see

And I can’t hear

DSC02055

But Peg sees far beyond my sight

In perfect darkness

Or morning light

The garden seems so very still

And I sense no movement…

But Peggy will

DSC05981 (2)

This flowery world, my peaceful place

I fear has dangers

Wee ones face

Thus when a something moves out there

Her muscles tense

She’ll stop, she’ll stare

DSCN2046

The jungle instinct DNA

Deep within

Must have its way

The huntress to her clan is true

With feline knowledge

Ages through

Low she crouches to the ground

And pounces fast

Without a sound

DSC01651 (3)

She’s quicker then, than I can blink

After what quarry

I dare not think

It’s quick through the garden then for me

I need not know

What might yet be

How’d my purry, furry cat

Turn into something

Fierce as that?

DSC02694

And after all the hunting’s done

She turns her sweet face

To the sun

Then seeks me out for a quiet nap

My darling one

Upon my lap

Look what I found at a nursery this week! A ginger. But not just any old ginger. No, no, no. This one made me gasp! Of course it was mislabeled and read Asarum europeana. My friend Charlie who orders perennials at the nursery, and I just didn’t think this could be right. A. europeana has […]

When Mark and I left New York City, our landscape and garden design business was well underway. As a lucky break, we were able to rent a sweet little a cottage on an estate we were designing. It was beautiful, open and bucolic there with guinea hens at our kitchen door and cows out in […]
